At a June 27 press briefing, Trump was asked if he’d sell his family’s crypto holdings to help pass key crypto legislation. Instead of agreeing or refusing, he pivoted:

Texas is making a bold move: a state-managed, publicly funded Bitcoin reserve with $10 million to start, overseen by the Comptroller and experts, designed to fight inflation and send a strong signal that Texas is crypto-friendly.

Senate Bill 21, known as the Texas Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and Investment Act, was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott on June 22, 2025. This makes Texas the first U.S. state to allocate public funds to hold Bitcoin.
